5 Must-Do Home Maintenance Tasks for Spring

Now that spring has arrived, it’s the perfect time to complete some home maintenance tasks. The daytime sunshine lasts longer, and the weather starts getting warmer, giving you plenty of time to handle tasks that you couldn’t necessarily take care of during the colder fall and winter months.

If you’re ready to complete tasks that will keep your home in fantastic condition, check out this list of five must-do home maintenance tasks for spring.

5 Must-Do Home Maintenance Tasks for Spring

1. Check and Clean the Gutters

Grab the ladder and head outside to check and clean your gutters. During the fall and winter months, debris quickly starts to accumulate inside the gutters. Upon inspecting them, you’ll likely find twigs, leaves, branches, and other debris from the past several months. It’s important to carefully remove all this debris and then give your gutters a thorough cleaning.

If they’re clogged, rainwater won’t have a safe place to drain, which means that water will end up sitting on your rooftop. When water sits for too long on the roof, it can cause extensive damage that’ll likely cost thousands of dollars. Avoid that problem by checking and cleaning your gutters.

2. Give the Siding and Patio a Deep Cleaning

Use a pressure washer to give your siding and patio a deep cleaning. All those windy winter days have likely caused dirt to accumulate on your patio and the sides of your home. While you can take a scrub brush and soapy water to these areas of the house, save yourself time and work by using a pressure washer to get the job done.

3. Paint Areas in Need of a Fresh Coat

Look around the home and check for areas that could use a fresh coat of paint. You might find a few scratches or chipped paint on the walls of your kitchen, bedroom, and other parts of the home. Spring is the best time to start painting these areas. Wondering why? As the weather gets a bit warmer, it’s easier to open the windows and air the house out after painting, ultimately getting rid of that strong paint odor at a faster pace.

4. Wash Your Windows Both Inside and Outside

Take the time to wash the windows both inside and outside. When working on the inside, you can use a microfiber cloth with your favorite window cleaner to get rid of dust and dirt. When working on the windows from the outside of the home, use a hose, a bucket of water mixed with soap, and a large soft sponge.

You can dampen the sponge in the soapy water, gently rub it against the windows, and then hose them down to remove the dirt, dust, and soap residue. Your windows will shine brightly under the spring sunshine.

5. Check Your Air Conditioning Units

Don’t forget to check your air conditioning units. It’s an excellent time to uncover them and check for any dust or dirt accumulated over the past several months. If you know how to clean the air conditioning units, now is the time to give them that detailed cleaning. Before you know it, you’ll need to put the air conditioner on to cool down on hot summer days, so it’s best to be prepared.

So, there you have it. If you’d like to keep your home in the best condition while taking on some simple tasks, there are five must-do home maintenance tasks for springtime. These tasks are not too challenging to complete, and they’re worth doing to help you keep your home looking its best.
